Tax Manager
Position Overview
A diversified private enterprise is seeking a Tax Manager to join its corporate tax team. This role will partner closely with finance, accounting, executive leadership, and external advisors to support tax compliance, planning, research, and strategic initiatives across a portfolio of entities and investments.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical tax background, experience managing complex entity structures, and the ability to translate tax considerations into practical business recommendations. This position also offers leadership responsibilities, including mentoring team members and overseeing key tax processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with accounting and finance teams to understand business operations, transactions, and strategic initiatives for tax planning and compliance purposes.
- Review and oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance for various entity structures, including partnerships, corporations, trusts, and pass-through entities.
- Prepare and review tax projections and forecasts to support planning and business decision-making.
- Lead and support tax consulting projects related to business transactions, restructuring initiatives, and other strategic activities.
- Research complex tax matters and communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to improve efficiency and manage risk.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, regulations, and administrative guidance and evaluate their impact on the organization.
- Support tax audits, examinations, notices, and inquiries from taxing authorities.
- Drive process improvements, documentation enhancements, and workflow optimization initiatives within the tax function.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and service providers to ensure timely and accurate compliance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure tax positions are properly implemented and communicated.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to tax staff while supporting team development and performance management.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field.
- CPA certification.
- 7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, corporate tax, or a combination of both.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance and planning.
- Experience working with complex business structures and multi-entity organizations.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Preferred
- Experience with privately held organizations, investment structures, or diversified business operations.
- Background in both tax compliance and strategic tax planning.
- Experience managing direct reports or leading project teams.
- Familiarity with tax technology, workflow automation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Exposure to multi-state and international tax matters.
