Tax Manager – Domestic Tax (Hybrid)
About the Opportunity
Join a global manufacturing and industrial organization with a large multinational footprint and a sophisticated tax function. This role offers broad exposure across U.S. federal and multi-state income tax compliance, tax accounting, controversy, planning, and process transformation initiatives.
The Tax Manager will serve as a key member of the Domestic Tax team, partnering closely with finance, treasury, global tax reporting, offshore support teams, and external advisors. This role is ideal for a technically strong tax professional who enjoys improving processes, leveraging technology, and supporting strategic business initiatives.
This is a hybrid position with regular collaboration at the company’s corporate headquarters and flexibility based on location.
Key Responsibilities
Federal & State Tax Compliance
- Lead and coordinate U.S. federal and multi-state income tax compliance processes
- Manage external service providers and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate tax filings
- Review tax positions and supporting documentation to ensure technical accuracy and compliance
- Support filing positions related to nexus, apportionment, and other state tax matters
Tax Accounting & Reporting
- Support quarterly and annual income tax provision processes under ASC 740
- Assist with effective tax rate (ETR), uncertain tax positions, and cash tax analyses
- Coordinate compliance and provision activities to ensure alignment between tax reporting and filings
- Support SOX compliance and related documentation requirements
Tax Controversy & Audit Defense
- Serve as a key resource for federal and state tax audits, notices, and information requests
- Develop technical responses and coordinate with external advisors when needed
- Support appeals, refund claims, and assessment challenges
Tax Planning & Business Support
- Analyze tax implications of business expansion initiatives, organizational changes, and operational developments
- Support planning related to manufacturing footprint changes, supply chain initiatives, legal entity restructurings, and other strategic projects
- Research and document tax considerations related to acquisitions, divestitures, and reorganizations
Process Improvement & Automation
- Drive automation and continuous improvement efforts across the tax compliance lifecycle
- Enhance workflows, documentation standards, controls, and data integration processes
- Identify opportunities to standardize and streamline manual processes
- Support broader tax transformation initiatives through technology and automation tools
Technical Leadership
- Monitor federal and state tax legislative developments and assess business impact
- Provide technical guidance on tax accounting and compliance matters
- Assist in mentoring and developing less experienced tax professionals
- Help establish consistent documentation and process standards across the tax function
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5+ years of progressive experience in U.S. federal and multi-state corporate income tax
- Strong knowledge of tax compliance and ASC 740 tax accounting principles
- Experience working in a multinational corporate environment and/or public accounting firm
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong technical tax research and documentation skills
Preferred
- CPA or equivalent professional certification
- Master’s in Taxation (MST) or other advanced tax degree
- Experience with both public accounting and industry tax environments

Tax Technology
- Experience with tax provision and compliance software such as:
- Corptax
- OneSource Tax Provision
- Similar enterprise tax systems
Automation & Analytics
- Experience with automation tools such as:
- Alteryx
- Excel Power Query
- Microsoft Power Automate
- Similar workflow automation platforms
ERP & Financial Systems
- Experience with ERP and enterprise financial systems preferred, including:
- SAP
- OneStream
- Fixed asset systems
- Similar large-scale platforms
Skills & Attributes
- Strong multi-state tax expertise, including nexus and apportionment considerations
- Process-improvement mindset with interest in automation and technology
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to communicate technical tax matters clearly to non-tax stakeholders
- Demonstrated ownership of complex tax projects and workstreams
