Tax Director – Tax Operations & Strategic Transactions

About the Opportunity

Join a large, publicly traded energy and infrastructure organization with a diverse portfolio of regulated utilities, renewable energy assets, and strategic investments. This leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee significant aspects of the company’s tax function while supporting complex business transactions, tax planning initiatives, and operational growth.

The Tax Director will play a critical role across tax operations, compliance, planning, M&A support, and tax strategy. Reporting to senior tax leadership, this position combines deep technical tax expertise with team leadership, process improvement, and strategic business partnership responsibilities.

This role is based in South Florida.


Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Direct the preparation, review, and filing of federal and state income tax returns for the company and its affiliated entities
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax requirements
  • Oversee reporting of tax planning strategies within tax returns and related filings
  • Support tax reporting and compliance activities across multiple business lines and legal entities

Tax Planning & Transactions

  • Partner with tax planning and M&A teams on acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, and other strategic transactions
  • Analyze and advise on the tax consequences of business initiatives and investments
  • Support implementation of tax-efficient structures for new projects and transactions
  • Provide technical guidance on federal and state tax matters affecting the organization

Tax Controversy & Audit Support

  • Assist with federal and state tax audits and examinations
  • Coordinate responses to taxing authority inquiries and information requests
  • Support resolution of complex tax issues and controversy matters

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals
  • Provide direction across compliance, reporting, and planning activities
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
  • Support development of future tax leaders within the organization

Process Improvement & Technology

  • Drive automation and efficiency initiatives throughout the tax function
  • Enhance tax processes, controls, documentation, and reporting capabilities
  • Partner with finance and technology teams to improve data management and tax systems
  • Promote scalable and technology-enabled solutions across the department

Business Partnership

  • Advise business leaders on tax implications related to contracts, transactions, reorganizations, and other strategic initiatives
  • Collaborate with finance, accounting, legal, and operational stakeholders
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the business

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field
  • 12+ years of progressive tax experience
  • 6+ years of management or leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax compliance and planning
  • Experience supporting complex corporate transactions and business initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities

Preferred

  • CPA designation
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field
  • LL.M. in Taxation or advanced tax credentials
  • Experience within a large multinational, energy, infrastructure, utility, or capital-intensive industry environment
