Position Overview

A Fortune 500 organization is seeking a Tax Analyst – Indirect Tax & Audit to join its corporate tax team. This role supports indirect tax audits, compliance activities, tax account analysis, and process improvement initiatives across a large multi-state operating environment. The position offers significant exposure to tax operations, audit management, and cross-functional collaboration within a complex corporate structure.

The ideal candidate will have experience with sales and use tax audits, strong analytical skills, and the ability to navigate multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support state and local indirect tax audits, including data gathering, reconciliation, documentation review, and audit response preparation.
  • Coordinate information requests from taxing authorities and assist in resolving audit findings and assessments.
  • Analyze and reconcile tax-related balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with sales and use tax compliance activities, including preparation and review of periodic tax filings when needed.
  • Review transactional data and supporting documentation to validate tax treatment and reporting positions.
  • Monitor developments in state and local tax legislation and assess potential impacts to the organization.
  • Partner with accounting, finance, and operational teams to address tax-related questions and business initiatives.
  • Evaluate operational changes and business processes for indirect tax implications.
  • Assist with tax research, process improvements, and special projects supporting the broader tax function.
  • Develop training materials and provide guidance to internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters.
  • Support the ongoing enhancement of audit readiness, documentation standards, and compliance procedures.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in indirect tax, sales and use tax, audit defense, or tax compliance.
  • Strong understanding of state and local tax regulations.
  • Experience analyzing financial data and performing account reconciliations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience managing or supporting state and local tax audits.
  • Background in a large corporate environment, public accounting, consulting, or government taxation.
  • Knowledge of indirect tax technology and compliance software.
  • Experience working within a multi-state or multinational organization.
  • Exposure to tax controversy, audit defense, and assessment resolution.
