Indirect Tax Analyst
Position Overview
A Fortune 500 organization is seeking a Tax Analyst – Indirect Tax & Audit to join its corporate tax team. This role supports indirect tax audits, compliance activities, tax account analysis, and process improvement initiatives across a large multi-state operating environment. The position offers significant exposure to tax operations, audit management, and cross-functional collaboration within a complex corporate structure.
The ideal candidate will have experience with sales and use tax audits, strong analytical skills, and the ability to navigate multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support state and local indirect tax audits, including data gathering, reconciliation, documentation review, and audit response preparation.
- Coordinate information requests from taxing authorities and assist in resolving audit findings and assessments.
- Analyze and reconcile tax-related balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Assist with sales and use tax compliance activities, including preparation and review of periodic tax filings when needed.
- Review transactional data and supporting documentation to validate tax treatment and reporting positions.
- Monitor developments in state and local tax legislation and assess potential impacts to the organization.
- Partner with accounting, finance, and operational teams to address tax-related questions and business initiatives.
- Evaluate operational changes and business processes for indirect tax implications.
- Assist with tax research, process improvements, and special projects supporting the broader tax function.
- Develop training materials and provide guidance to internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters.
- Support the ongoing enhancement of audit readiness, documentation standards, and compliance procedures.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in indirect tax, sales and use tax, audit defense, or tax compliance.
- Strong understanding of state and local tax regulations.
- Experience analyzing financial data and performing account reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience managing or supporting state and local tax audits.
- Background in a large corporate environment, public accounting, consulting, or government taxation.
- Knowledge of indirect tax technology and compliance software.
- Experience working within a multi-state or multinational organization.
- Exposure to tax controversy, audit defense, and assessment resolution.
