Tax Controller
Position Overview
An established, multi-billion-dollar family enterprise is seeking a Family Office Controller, Tax & Finance to join its growing family office. This highly visible role offers direct interaction with the Founder/CEO and broad responsibility across tax strategy, financial reporting, entity management, investment oversight, and family office operations.
The ideal candidate combines deep tax and accounting expertise with the ability to navigate complex entity structures, support high-net-worth individuals, and provide strategic financial guidance. This position is designed for a finance leader who wants to expand beyond traditional accounting and play a key role in shaping the future of a sophisticated family office platform.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Strategy & Planning
- Oversee tax planning and compliance for the founder, family members, trusts, partnerships, LLCs, and other affiliated entities.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors, attorneys, and consultants to optimize tax strategies and ensure compliance.
- Analyze and implement tax-efficient structures for investments, estate planning, and business activities.
- Review federal, state, and local tax filings across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
Accounting & Financial Management
- Lead accounting, financial reporting, cash management, and budgeting functions for family office entities.
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and management reports.
- Monitor liquidity, capital allocations, and financial performance across operating, investment, and personal entities.
- Strengthen internal controls and improve financial processes and reporting capabilities.
Family Office Operations
- Manage complex entity structures, including partnerships, trusts, holding companies, and investment vehicles.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations and coordinate with external service providers.
- Support family governance, wealth preservation initiatives, and special projects.
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping and documentation across all entities.
Strategic Finance & Investments
- Partner with the Founder/CEO on financial planning, investment analysis, and strategic initiatives.
- Evaluate new investment opportunities and support transaction execution and ongoing monitoring.
- Develop financial models, forecasts, and scenario analyses.
- Provide insights and recommendations that support long-term wealth creation and preservation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting, tax, family office, public accounting, or wealth management experience.
- Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Strong knowledge of partnership taxation, trusts, estate planning concepts, and multi-entity structures.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex legal entity structures and consolidated financial reporting.
- Advanced financial analysis, reporting, and modeling skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact directly with ownership and senior leadership.
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Preferred Background
- Family office experience.
- Public accounting and private industry experience.
- Exposure to alternative investments, private equity, real estate, or closely held businesses.
- Experience partnering directly with founders, entrepreneurs, or family principals.
