Senior Tax Analyst
The Tax Senior Specialist will manage US state and local direct tax affairs for North America and support tax matters related to US foreign operations. The focus of the role is US state tax compliance and planning, responding to tax inquiries from tax authorities, and may include assisting with various federal or international tax compliance and provision issues. In addition, the Tax Senior Specialist plays a key role in the preparation of quarterly tax reporting for North America and its subsidiaries. This role reports directly to the Tax Reporting Manager.
Role accountabilities:
- Maintain and monitor the tax compliance calendar, including due dates, estimates, and extensions.
- Review state and local income tax returns and supporting workpapers, including preparation of estimates, extensions, and state apportionment calculations.
- Reconcile state tax payable and receivable accounts monthly; manage state tax payment and refund procedures, including online portal access. Partner with outside tax consultants on various projects, as assigned.
- Collaborate with accounting, legal, and other corporate departments (US and global) to accomplish assigned objectives.
- Track and keep up-to-date records of any state legislative changes and advise on potential tax planning opportunities.
- Research state and local tax matters and provide support to the US and global tax team members, upon request.
- Assist with tracking and responding to tax controversies, including audits and notices
- Leverage AI and automation tools to streamline compliance processes and reduce manual workflows.
- Support the Tax and Compliance Director with the preparation of the US tax compliance quarterly income tax provisions under IAS 12 (IFRS) based tax reporting and accounting, including analysis of uncertain tax positions, deferred tax positions, return-to-provision adjustments, etc.
- Assist as needed in providing information to accounting team related to tax reporting and tax accounting, including analysis of uncertain tax positions, deferred tax positions, return-to-provision adjustments, cash taxes, forecasting, etc.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5-8 years of relevant tax experience, with a focus on U.S. federal and state income tax compliance.
- Strong knowledge of tax accounting and reporting under IFRS or U.S. GAAP (IFRS preferred).
- Prior experience as a tax advisor or in a corporate tax department.
- Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
- Experience with automation tools and tax technology solutions is a plus.
