Director, Global Tax Accounting

About the Opportunity

Join a large multinational public company undergoing significant transformation and modernization within its global tax function. This highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee global tax accounting and financial reporting while driving technology, automation, and process improvements across a complex international organization.

Reporting to the Vice President of Tax, the Director, Global Tax Accounting will serve as the organization’s lead expert on ASC 740 and global income tax reporting. The successful candidate will combine deep technical tax accounting expertise with a strong change-management mindset, helping evolve the tax function from a traditional reporting model to a more technology-enabled, strategic business partner.

This role is ideal for a seasoned tax professional who enjoys leading large-scale transformation initiatives, collaborating with executive leadership, and building scalable, best-in-class tax accounting processes.


Key Responsibilities

Global Tax Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Lead all aspects of global tax accounting and financial reporting under ASC 740
  • Oversee quarterly and annual worldwide income tax provisions
  • Manage effective tax rate (ETR) calculations, deferred taxes, tax reserves, and uncertain tax positions (FIN 48)
  • Ensure accurate tax disclosures in SEC filings, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q
  • Oversee current and deferred tax reporting across domestic and international legal entities
  • Manage tax accounting considerations related to valuation allowances, foreign operations, business combinations, and complex multinational structures
  • Present tax accounting results, key risks, and strategic considerations to senior leadership, executive management, and external auditors

Regulatory & Technical Tax Leadership

  • Monitor and evaluate emerging domestic and international tax developments
  • Assess financial reporting implications of evolving regulations, including:
    • OECD Pillar Two
    • Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax (CAMT)
    • GILTI and related international tax provisions
    • Foreign tax credit regimes
    • Global tax reform initiatives
  • Partner with accounting leadership on new accounting standards and tax implications of accounting method changes

Forecasting & Strategic Analysis

  • Lead forecasting of effective tax rates and cash taxes
  • Partner with FP&A to develop forecasting models and enhance visibility into tax drivers by legal entity and jurisdiction
  • Support strategic planning through forward-looking tax analysis and scenario modeling

Process Transformation & Technology

  • Drive modernization of the tax accounting function through automation, process redesign, and technology implementation
  • Lead initiatives to reduce manual processes and improve data quality, controls, and reporting efficiency
  • Evaluate and implement advanced tax technologies, analytics solutions, and AI-enabled tools
  • Support the transition from outsourced tax provision processes toward a more insourced operating model

Internal Controls & SOX Compliance

  • Maintain and enhance tax-related SOX 404 controls and documentation
  • Ensure effective governance across tax provision and reporting processes
  • Partner with internal and external auditors on control testing and compliance reviews

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the tax accounting function
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities for team members
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability
  • Drive organizational readiness for regulatory and business change

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA designation
  • 15+ years of progressive tax experience with significant ASC 740 expertise
  • Extensive experience within large multinational public companies and/or Big 4 public accounting firms
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP tax accounting and SEC reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership of tax accounting teams and complex global tax reporting functions
  • Experience managing relationships with executive leadership and external auditors

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting
  • Experience leading tax transformation initiatives
  • Experience supporting multinational organizations with complex global operations
  • Strong background in international tax accounting matters and global compliance frameworks

Technical Skills

Systems & Technology

  • Experience with enterprise tax provision platforms such as:
    • OneSource Tax Provision
    • Similar tax reporting solutions
  • Familiarity with:
    • SAP or comparable ERP systems
    • HFM or other consolidation platforms
    • Data analytics and automation tools
    • AI-enabled workflow and reporting technologies

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Proven change-management and transformation leadership experience
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex tax matters to non-tax stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Highly organized and able to manage competing priorities under demanding reporting deadlines
  • Collaborative leader who builds trust across finance, accounting, tax, and executive teams
