A global leader in advanced materials is seeking a Manager, Tax Accounting. This position may be based in one of the company’s U.S. finance hubs and reports to the Director, Tax Accounting. The Manager will be responsible for executing tax policy and overseeing processes related to tax forecasting, tax provisions, tax accounting, and tax footnotes included in public financial filings (e.g., quarterly and annual reports). The role also includes maintaining a strong internal control environment and providing technical guidance on matters related to ASC 740 – Income Taxes, as well as instruction on tax accounting procedures and deliverables.
The Manager will play a key role in supporting ongoing initiatives to streamline and automate the organization’s tax processes as part of a broader long-term technology strategy.
Collaboration is essential in this role. The individual will work closely with the Director, Tax Accounting to develop and implement tax strategies that support corporate objectives related to effective tax rates and cash tax planning. The Manager will also partner with leaders in financial planning, analysis, and technical accounting to acquire necessary data and provide tax analysis for senior management and for both GAAP and non‑GAAP reporting.
Primary Responsibilities
- Calculate the forecasted annual effective tax rate and monitor discrete items quarterly to determine global tax expense under ASC 740, including management of global income tax account rollforward and reconciliation processes.
- Research, document, model, and communicate the effects of proposed or enacted tax legislation on the global effective tax rate.
- Review tax packages for major U.S. and international legal entities; provide training to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Support maintenance of the company’s tax provision software, including reconciliations, summaries, and ongoing process improvements.
- Coordinate with external auditors to support tax positions and manage the internal controls process and related documentation.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- CPA or master’s in taxation preferred.
- Five to eight years of corporate tax experience, including three to five years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience with ASC 740 and SEC reporting, ideally from both public accounting and corporate environments.
- Experience preparing consolidated global tax provisions, effective tax rate analyses, and addressing specialized ASC 740 areas (purchase accounting, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, etc.).
- Proven success in process improvement and leveraging automation/technology.
- Advanced tax technology skills; proficiency with tax provision software required.
- Strong technical tax research skills and ability to prepare technical memoranda.
- Analytical, proactive, and able to work under tight deadlines.
- Strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills.
