Tax Manager – Job Description

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead all aspects of organizational tax compliance, reporting, and strategic planning. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations while identifying opportunities to enhance overall tax efficiency. The Tax Manager will collaborate closely with finance, accounting, and senior leadership to provide accurate tax insights that support operational decisions and potential business transactions.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting

* Oversee preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including income, sales & use, property, franchise, and excise taxes.

* Ensure all filings comply with evolving tax laws and are submitted on time.

* Manage quarterly and annual tax provision processes, including deferred tax accounting.

* Maintain documentation to support audits and regulatory inquiries.

Tax Strategy & Planning

* Develop tax strategies that reduce overall tax burden while maintaining full compliance.

* Advise leadership on tax impacts related to business initiatives, transactions, restructurings, and capital investments.

* Identify available tax credits, incentives, and deductions.

* Lead projects that improve tax efficiency and support long-term cash-flow planning.

Audit & Risk Management

* Serve as primary point of contact for tax audits and examinations.

* Respond to regulatory requests and maintain strong internal controls around tax processes.

Collaboration & Leadership

* Work closely with finance and senior leadership to align tax practices with organizational financial goals.

* Support due diligence and integration activities for mergers and acquisitions.

* Supervise and mentor tax staff while coordinating with external advisors.

* Ensure tax data accuracy across ERP and accounting systems.

Qualifications

* CPA required

* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s in Taxation preferred

* 5-10 years of progressive tax experience, including at least 2 years in a management role

* Strong knowledge of corporate, partnership, and multistate tax laws

* Experience with tax provision software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or similar)

* Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership capabilities
