Senior Tax Analyst – State Tax

The Senior Tax Analyst supports U.S. tax operations with a primary focus on state income tax compliance, reporting, audits, and planning. This role operates in a dynamic, acquisitive, and technology-enabled environment and requires strong technical capability, a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to translate complex tax matters into practical execution. This position reports to the Director of Tax.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review state and local income, franchise, and gross receipts tax returns, including apportionment and state modification calculations.
  • Support the state income tax provision process, including current and deferred taxes and related financial statement disclosures.
  • Prepare state income and franchise tax estimated payments and extensions.
  • Assist with state tax audits and inquiries, including gathering data, drafting responses, and coordinating resolutions with tax authorities.
  • Evaluate state tax implications of business initiatives, restructurings, and transactions; translate technical analysis into actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters, including sales and use tax, property tax, and business licenses.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve compliance processes, data management, and internal controls to support a growing organization.
  • Drive automation, standardization, and efficiency initiatives across tax operations.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, standard work, and knowledge-sharing practices to enhance scalability, audit readiness, and team effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s in Taxation and/or CPA preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax and/or public accounting with a focus on state income tax.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. state income, franchise, and indirect tax principles.
  • Proven analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Experience with tax and automation tools such as Corptax, Alteryx, Power Platform, or similar technologies preferred.
  • Results-oriented, intellectually curious, collaborative, and improvement-focused mindset.
  • Demonstrated interest in tax optimization and scalable, technology-enabled solutions.
