Our client, a large international organisation operating in a complex and highly regulated environment, is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to join its Glasgow-based team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a VAT specialist who enjoys advisory work and wants to influence commercial decision-making across a multi-jurisdictional business. The position offers broad exposure to indirect tax matters across Europe and would suit an established manager or a strong candidate ready to step into a more senior role.

Working closely with finance teams, tax colleagues and senior stakeholders, you will provide practical, commercially focused advice on indirect tax matters while supporting strategic business initiatives and ongoing compliance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day indirect tax advice to finance, tax and operational teams across the business.
  • Review existing and proposed business activities to identify indirect tax implications and associated risks.
  • Deliver practical, commercially focused guidance to support business decisions and ensure compliance.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external advisers.
  • Manage and coordinate external tax advisers where required.
  • Support the review of indirect tax returns and related compliance processes.
  • Contribute indirect tax expertise to business change projects, systems implementations and new initiatives.
  • Monitor developments in VAT and other indirect tax regimes and assess their impact on the business.
  • Assist with identifying and mitigating indirect tax risks across multiple jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • Professional tax or accounting qualification such as CTA, ACCA or equivalent.
  • Strong European VAT experience gained within a large corporate, consultancy, professional services or similarly complex environment.
  • Excellent technical understanding of VAT legislation and its practical commercial application.
  • Strong knowledge of cross-border transactions and the movement of goods.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise senior business leaders.
  • Experience overseeing projects and coordinating with internal and external parties.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial and business systems.
  • Previous experience within financial services or an in-house tax function would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) and other parafiscal taxes would be beneficial, although training can be provided.
  • Additional European language skills would be an advantage.

What’s on Offer

This role offers the opportunity to work within a sizeable international business, providing exposure to a diverse range of indirect tax issues and strategic projects. It would suit a commercially minded VAT professional looking to broaden their experience and play a visible role in supporting business growth and transformation.
