First tax hire
The challenge
Wayve, co-founded in 2017, is a company pioneering AI technology to power self-driving. We were referred to the CFO through our network who was looking to make his first in-house tax appointment. They had always used advisors to support with their tax affairs however they now wanted their own in-house support. At the start they had not decided exactly what the scope would be or the salary and level of the role.
The solution
We worked with the CFO to scope out the duties and responsibilities, ascertain a suitable job title for the role and undertook salary benchmarking. We also spent time discussing the tax recruitment market and the type of individuals we have in our network.
Initially, Wayve chose to utilise direct sourcing using their own talent acquisition channels including advertising and whilst this resulted in interviews, the right individual was not identified. We were appointed following this initial search to support them on an exclusive basis.
We analysed the feedback from the initial interviews in order to identify exactly the skill set that was being sought and what had been missing from these potential candidates.
We identified potential talent pools, focusing our search on both individuals working in-house elsewhere as well as those coming from a professional services background.
The outcome
We supported Wayve through the identification of suitable candidates, interviews, offer management and resignation which all culminated in the appointment of the right individual. The individual has now successfully started in the role and will be looking to build the team out further as their role develops and the business expands.
