Associate Director – Private Equity Tax
Location: Birmingham
Overview
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading professional services firm recognised as one of the most prominent advisory businesses outside of the Big 4. The firm has built a strong reputation in the mid-market, combining deep technical expertise with a highly commercial, partner-led approach to client service.
With a growing private equity client base and a clear strategic focus on transactions and funds, the team is expanding and looking to appoint an experienced Associate Director to play a key role in its continued growth.
The firm is known for its collaborative and entrepreneurial culture, offering individuals the opportunity to take genuine ownership of client relationships, develop business, and progress more quickly than in more hierarchical environments.

The Role
As an Associate Director within the Private Equity Tax team, you will work closely with Partners and Directors on a broad range of advisory-led projects for private equity houses, portfolio companies and management teams.
You will play a central role in delivering high-quality tax advice across the deal lifecycle, while also contributing to business development and mentoring junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising private equity funds and their portfolio companies on a range of complex corporate tax and transaction-related matters
  • Supporting on buy-side and sell-side transactions, including structuring, due diligence and execution
  • Advising on management incentive plans, exit planning, refinancing and restructuring projects
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders
  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional services and contributing to business development initiatives
  • Leading the delivery of multiple projects, ensuring technical accuracy and commercial relevance
  • Managing and mentoring junior team members, supporting their development and progression
  • Collaborating with other service lines (e.g. deals, accounting advisory, audit) to deliver integrated solutions

Why Join
  • Standout alternative to the Big 4 – A leading advisory firm with a strong market presence and reputation in the mid-market
  • Entrepreneurial environment – Greater autonomy and faster progression opportunities
  • High-quality client base – Exposure to leading private equity houses and dynamic, high-growth businesses
  • Advisory-led role – A strong focus on transactions and value-add work rather than pure compliance
  • Collaborative culture – A supportive, team-oriented environment with access to senior leadership
  • Growth platform – A firm with ambitious expansion plans in private capital and transactions

Candidate Profile
  • ACA and/or CTA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Strong corporate tax background, with demonstrable experience advising private equity clients or large corporate groups
  • Experience working on transaction-related projects (e.g. due diligence, structuring, exits)
  • Commercially minded with the ability to deliver practical, solutions-focused advice
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and develop business opportunities
  • Experience leading projects and managing more junior team members
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Career Opportunity
This role offers a clear pathway toward Director and Partner, with the opportunity to play a visible role in shaping the growth of a high-performing private equity tax team in a key regional market.
