VAT Senior Manager – London
A leading UK accountancy and advisory firm is seeking a talented and experienced individual to join its VAT team as a Senior Manager, based in London. The firm provides a wide range of tax and consulting services to a diverse client base, with particular expertise in the real estate and financial services sectors, both in the UK and internationally.
Role Overview
This is a pivotal role for a seasoned VAT professional ready to take the next step in their career. As VAT Senior Manager, you will lead complex advisory projects, manage a portfolio of high-value clients, and support Directors and Partners in strategic initiatives. You’ll also play a key role in developing junior talent and contributing to the growth of the VAT practice through business development and sector specialisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Leadership – Manage a portfolio of VAT compliance and advisory engagements, acting as a trusted adviser and engaging with clients on technical and commercial matters.
- Advisory Projects – Lead and contribute to complex consultancy assignments, working independently or alongside Directors/Partners.
- Team Development – Provide coaching and formal performance management for junior staff, including appraisals and on-the-job training.
- Practice Development – Support business development efforts, contribute to marketing initiatives, and begin to build sector-specific expertise.
- Compliance Oversight – Ensure internal procedures and HMRC guidance are followed, maintaining high standards of technical accuracy and client service.
- Strategic Support – Assist Directors and Partners in managing the team and identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Continuous Learning – Stay current with VAT legislation, HMRC updates, and industry trends through seminars, courses, and internal briefings.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive UK VAT experience gained in a professional services or industry setting
- Strong technical capability and experience managing complex client work
- Proven leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring junior staff
- Commercially minded with a proactive approach to business development
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and contributing to strategic initiatives
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) or tax adviser (CTA)
