VAT Director – London

A leading UK accountancy and advisory firm is seeking a talented individual to join its VAT team based in London. The firm offers a wide range of tax and consulting services to a diverse portfolio of clients, both in the UK and internationally.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality VAT advisory services, managing client relationships, and supporting the development of junior team members. This is an excellent opportunity for a VAT professional looking to take ownership of client engagements and contribute to a dynamic and growing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of VAT projects across a portfolio of clients, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Review and oversee the work of junior team members, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Serve as a key point of contact with HMRC, managing correspondence and enquiries effectively.
  • Monitor project scope and budget, proactively communicating with clients and senior stakeholders regarding any changes or potential overruns.
  • Identify and escalate complex technical issues or risks, while also spotting opportunities to offer additional services.
  • Support senior leadership on broader client engagements and contribute to team development initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior client stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

  • ACA or CTA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in UK VAT, with a strong technical background.
  • In-depth knowledge of VAT developments across a range of sectors is highly desirable.
  • Confident in reviewing VAT compliance work and delivering strategic advice.
  • Demonstrates a commercial mindset and the ability to engage with senior-level clients.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with cross-functional tax teams.
