About the Role The main responsibility of the Tax Manager is to plan, oversee, prepare, and review Fiduciary Income Tax Returns, as well as maintain the tax records for the trusts managed by the company.

Educational Background & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in taxation, including a minimum of 3 years in trust taxation.
  • Strong preference for candidates with knowledge of directed trust tax issues.
  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in Public Accounting and an active CPA license is preferred.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review annual tax reporting forms for various trusts, particularly Form 1041: Fiduciary Income Tax Returns, and related state income tax forms.
  • Prepare and review other tax forms as needed, including those related to distributions, gifts, estate, and generation-skipping taxes for the trust and its beneficiaries.
  • Handle tax return extensions and estimated tax payments.
  • Address income tax preparation issues, such as taxable income and expense allocations, specific deductions, miscellaneous itemized deductions, income distribution deduction calculations, the relationship between principal and income law regarding distributable net income, and the treatment of capital gains and losses.
  • Communicate and build relationships with Trust Administrators, Trust Accountants, Legal Counsel, and others to address issues related to trusts and their beneficiaries.
  • Maintain open communication with clients and other third-party service providers, such as CPAs and Legal Counselors.
  • Research and prepare tax memorandums to support material tax positions.
  • Contribute to the development of effective and efficient tax processes and procedures to ensure complete, accurate, and timely tax returns.
  • Serve as the primary departmental resource for trust tax preparation, review, and planning knowledge and training.
  • Mentor and share tax knowledge with colleagues.
