Senior Property Tax Manager
This individual will play a critical role in overseeing aspects of the U.S. property tax function– covering approximately 4,000 parcels annually, including real estate, mineral, and personal property tax accounts owned and/or managed by the company.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and assist with financial analyses, real estate valuations, tax appeals, tax estimates, tax budgets, and market research.
- Maintain strong communication and partnerships with internal stakeholders and external partners, including consultants, engineers, attorneys, title companies, and governmental agencies.
- Negotiate with assessors across multiple states.
- Prepare and file timely and accurate Business Personal Property (BPP) renditions.
- Manage compliance filings related to abatements, FILOTs, and PILOTs, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Gain proficiency in and maintain updates to property tax data management software, including reporting and process enhancements.
- Review and approve tax bills and invoice processing to ensure accuracy and on-time payments.
- Resolve payment application issues with local tax collectors.
- Assist in managing consultant invoices and tracking.
- Prepare year-end reports and ad hoc reports for senior leadership.
- Contribute to the property tax section of the annual economic report.
- Evaluate property tax implications during due diligence for acquisitions or dispositions.
- Prepare/review closing statement property tax entries related to acquisitions and sales.
- Manage relationships with third-party consultants, when applicable.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members as needed.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in tax filings, payments, and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and tax reporting terminology.
- Strong negotiation skills to advocate for favorable property tax assessments and reductions.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to assess and implement process improvements for efficiency.
- Proactive and resourceful; able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
- Licensed Texas Senior Property Tax Consultant.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in real estate and personal property tax.
- CMI Certification (Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation) is a plus.
- Experience using property tax data management systems required.
