Senior Indirect Tax Manager
Location: London City Centre – Hybrid – 3 days in-office / 2 days remote

Brewer Morris are working with one of the UK’s largest and most dynamic real estate providers, home to tens of thousands of residents across multiple locations. As the organisation continues to scale, we’re seeking a skilled and commercially aware Senior Indirect Tax Manager to support its growth and ensure strong compliance and provide sound advice across indirect and broader tax areas.

Reporting to the Head of Tax, and working within a supportive in-house tax function, this role will play a critical part in managing tax obligations and advising on strategic transactions and operational matters. While exposure to a range of tax areas is expected, this role will have a primary focus on UK indirect taxes.

Role Summary

This is a senior-level position within a collaborative tax team, helping to shape the tax strategy and manage compliance across multiple tax categories – with a particular emphasis on VAT and other indirect taxes. You’ll be providing expert guidance to internal teams, supporting process enhancements, and representing the business in discussions with tax authorities and external advisors. This role will suit someone already operating at a senior level, looking to broaden out their experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as the go-to internal adviser for tax matters across the group, including M&A, property developments, and other strategic projects.
  • Lead the indirect tax compliance function, coordinating with internal teams and external partners to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Identify training needs and deliver tax-related learning sessions across the organisation.
  • Partner with the Head of Tax to foster strong relationships with HMRC, advisers, and business stakeholders.
  • Drive process optimisation in tax workflows, liaising with Finance and Technology functions as needed.
  • Maintain and update documentation to reflect evolving tax risks and regulatory obligations.
  • Stay current on tax legislation, contribute to external consultations, and present insights to leadership and shareholders.
  • Manage and mentor junior team members, providing day-to-day oversight and development support.

Qualifications & Background

  • Professional qualification: CTA, ACA, or equivalent is highly desired
  • Deep expertise in UK taxation, especially within the property sector, with strong VAT knowledge
  • Familiarity with offshore structures relevant to UK property ownership is highly beneficial but not essential (e.g., Jersey, Guernsey, Luxembourg)

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive tax experience from a large accountancy firm or major in-house tax function
  • Strong grasp of real estate and construction-related tax issues, including partial exemption
  • Comfortable interpreting financial data and understanding core accounting principles
  • Confident communicator able to engage with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to distil complex tax issues into practical advice for non-specialists
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on identifying efficiencies and adding commercial value
  • Well-organised and capable of managing multiple workstreams
  • Experience in team leadership and cross-functional collaboration
