I am partnering with a highly regarded mid-tier accountancy firm seeking to strengthen its Audit leadership team with the addition of an Audit Manager. This opportunity offers an excellent platform for an experienced auditor to take full ownership of client engagements, lead a high-performing team, and play a pivotal role in driving growth and process improvement.

The firm works with a diverse client base across multiple sectors, including technology, media, manufacturing, hospitality, professional services, and charities. Client sizes vary but are primarily SMEs and entrepreneurial businesses. While the role is predominantly audit-focused, there may be involvement in accounts preparation and tax-related work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage audit engagements from planning through to completion, ensuring compliance with professional standards and timely delivery.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor the audit team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
  • Review audit work and financial statements, ensuring accuracy and highlighting key audit-related issues.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing insights on audit, risk management, and financial reporting.
  • Monitor budgets and deadlines, proactively addressing issues and ensuring efficient delivery.
  • Drive business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and identifying opportunities to grow the audit practice.
  • Maintain strong technical standards and ensure adherence to firm-approved audit methodology throughout engagements.

Requirements

  • ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with demonstrable external audit experience within a UK-based Practice environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage audit teams, delivering high-quality services.
  • Strong technical expertise in UK GAAP, IFRS, auditing and accounting standards.
  • Experience in risk-based auditing and systems-based approaches.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with audit software such as Inflo, CaseWare, Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, Alphatax, and CCH is desirable.
