Brewer Morris are working with a fantastic global brand within the electronics industry to hire a VAT Manager.
The position sits within the wider tax team, a subset of the finance function. You’ll join a cohesive team dedicated to ensuring adherence to tax regulations and responsible tax practices throughout the business.
The role has no managerial duties, but you will oversee the work of a junior VAT person in the team. It is essential that the new incumbent has previous sales/goods indirect tax experience.
Responsibilities:
- Compiling and reviewing VAT returns for UK and Irish VAT registrations for the company, with assistance from the VAT analyst.
- Collaborating with various departments such as Finance, Logistics, Marketing, and legal teams across Europe to comprehend appropriate VAT treatments and transaction accounting.
- Managing relationships with external VAT advisors and determining when to seek external counsel. Ensuring provision of timely advice and monitoring costs within allocated budgets.
- Handling HMRC inquiries on all VAT matters, serving as the main liaison for VAT matters and fostering proactive communication with HMRC.
- Providing technical support to the VAT analyst and other departments within the organisation.
- Identifying VAT opportunities and risks, suggesting and implementing solutions in a timely manner.
Required Skills and Experience:
- CTA qualification or substantial experience in indirect tax.
- Familiarity with indirect tax implications related to product sales, including cross-border transactions.
- Proficiency in UK VAT legislation and compliance matters.
- Understanding of VAT accounting principles.
- Building relationships to assist teams in navigating various business issues, including explaining VAT implications to non-specialists.
