Senior Indirect Tax Advisor

Brewer Morris are delighted to be partnered with a leading global insurer to support on the hire for this newly created role in their London Tax Team. You’ll be part of a dynamic, high performing group of tax professionals responsible for managing and advising internal and external stakeholders on indirect tax matters and compliance processes for the Group’s insurance and reinsurance network worldwide. You will play a pivotal role in driving indirect tax initiatives, identifying and planning for areas of risk, acting as a proactive business partner to the organisation while supporting the broader finance and organisational change endeavors.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary liaison between the business and the tax department, advising on indirect tax matters for special projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead projects focusing on indirect tax opportunities and legislative developments, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address tax-related implications arising from various projects and initiatives.
  • Provide indirect tax expertise during corporate initiatives and engage with relevant stakeholders to offer comprehensive tax perspectives.
  • Work closely with tax compliance and reporting teams to ensure accurate reporting of indirect tax positions.
  • Enhance the visibility and engagement of the London Tax Team within the organization.
  • Continuously improve tax governance processes and operational effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on VAT & IPT regulations globally, evaluating their impact on business operations.
  • Provide technical insights and review indirect tax returns.
  • Mentor and develop indirect tax assistant managers, offering guidance and support.
  • Contribute to the development of tax-related controls and procedures.
  • Support the alignment of the Tax Target Operating Model with the Finance Target Operating Model.
  • Identify and implement technology solutions to enhance tax processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum five years post-qualification experience (ACA, CTA or equivalent).
  • Strong team player with a positive outlook and ability to adapt to change.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Previous experience in professional services or global corporate environment, with expertise in VAT optimisation and management.
  • Thorough technical knowledge of UK indirect tax and awareness of global indirect tax landscape, especially across EMEA.
  • Proven track record of delivering solutions and meeting deadlines.
  • Self-starter with the ability to solve complex tax issues and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders.
  • Occasional day trips to European locations may be required; no regular overseas travel expected.
  • Additional language proficiency (e.g., French, German, Spanish) beneficial but not essential.
