VAT Manager

Brewer Morris are delighted to be working with this fantastic company in the property sector to secure a new VAT Manager. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working autonomously in a broad role. You will ideally have some property or real estate experience or the desire to learn and develop in this industry.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee VAT compliance for VAT registrations, ensuring timely submission of monthly and quarterly returns.
  • Be responsible for VAT journals, reconciliations and assisting with the annual audit.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance VAT processes with a focus on the ERP system.
  • Navigate VAT complexities in the land and property sector
  • Be responsible for partial exemptions, annual adjustment calculations, construction and development transactions, agency relationships, and domestic reverse charge matters.
  • Offer VAT technical expertise on projects and corporate transactions, ensuring optimal VAT recovery.
  • Assist the Tax Team with Risk and Governance efforts, including annual SAO and HMRC Reviews, and managing HMRC inquiries.
  • Stay updated on VAT legislation changes and deliver regular training to Finance and business teams, ensuring strong VAT knowledge across the company.
  • Administer VAT matters, including managing registrations, de-registrations, VAT options, payments, VAT cash flow, Capital Goods Scheme assets, and budgets for external advisers, as well as overseeing HMRC accounts.
  • Potential to manage additional indirect taxes such as ATED, CIS, and SDLT.

Qualifications & Background

  • CTA, ACA, ACCA or an equivalent qualification.
  • In-depth VAT experience within the Real Estate sector, whether from practice or industry.
  • Extensive VAT technical knowledge gained through both experience and formal training.
  • Proven experience working directly with advisers and HMRC.
  • Previous experience with Tax Risk and Governance.
