Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely filing of US income tax returns (corporate and partnership) for the private funds; including interaction with external advisors to co-ordinate collection of information and review the work/tax return prepared by the external advisor/tax return preparer
  • Manage K-1 and K-3 tax reporting process for the Funds
  • Manage investor tax questions and responses
  • Work with external advisors in gathering information quarterly and annually for REIT testing, including review of the external advisors’ work
  • Manage US tax withholding on cash distributions
  • Ensure appropriate transfer pricing documentation is in place
  • Manage US tax provision process for the Funds
  • Oversee any federal and state tax audits of US entities, including handling of notices received from taxing authorities
  • Oversee tax form validation for new investors
  • Oversee tax functions and operations of certain portfolio company operations
  • Manage the compilation of deal closing binders
  • Prepare ad-hoc tax analyses in relation to acquisitions, dispositions, and restructuring
  • Research technical tax and accounting issues and disclosure matters
  • Keep informed of changing laws and regulations to apply to Brookfield policies and practices
  • Identify, develop, and direct the implementation of technology tools and process improvements to reduce low-value data collection time and efforts, and increase resource focus on analysis of results and variances

Requirements

  • Qualified CPA with 5-7 years of real estate tax experience
  • Experience at a Big 4 or mid-tier public accounting firm
  • Experience in private/industry is highly preferred
  • Technical knowledge of US real estate, REIT, corporate tax, and partnership tax rules
  • Knowledge of outbound tax compliance and experience with international tax research
  • Experience managing large tax compliance processes and assignments
  • Basic understanding of cross-border tax issues and US treaty analysis
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast-paced and team-oriented environment, and
  • Excellent project management skills and applies a pragmatic and efficient approach to handling complex assignments
