Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of tax provision experience with a major multinational corporation, Big 4 firm, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of work experience in a law firm, CPA firm (min of 8 years must be in Tax) and/or Tax Dept of a medium to large size multinational publicly traded company with significant experience/knowledge of IAS 12 and/or ASC 740 and Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 and experience working with external auditors
  • Experience must include preparing, reviewing, and supervising staff in the preparation of federal and multi-state corporate income tax returns
  • Experience must include project management and staff professional development

Required Education:

  • BA in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
  • CPA, JD, Master’s in Accounting, Master’s in Taxation, MBA and/or LLM

  • Technical subject matter expert in insurance tax, finance tax, accounting methods, fixed assets, inventory, cost segregation, and related fields
  • Strong leadership and staff development skills
  • Leadership of large and technically complex tax projects

Responsibilities:

Methods of accounting subject matter expert. Provide technical guidance across company to ensure proper and consistent positions across company such as:

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of federal and state tax reform provisions and tax law changes affecting AHM and its subsidiaries/affiliates and overseeing incorporation of such changes in the tax calculations
  • Strong knowledge of IRS guidance on changes in methods of accounting, including applications to change from an impermissible method to a permissible method, from one permissible method to another, method change vs error correction and associated consequences, disclosures and mitigation, appropriate character, and effect on timing, such as capital vs ordinary.
  • Fixed asset tax technical subject matter expert responsible for identifying, addressing, and resolving issues related to: TPR; rotables; QIP
  • Cost segregation tax technical subject matter expert responsible for providing analysis and completing studies
  • Inventory tax technical subject matter expert responsible for 263A calculations, LIFO, non-LIFO, and GPE calculations
  • Tax technical subject matter expert responsible for capital versus ordinary deduction, sales apportionment, UNICAP calculations, 163(j) interest expense limitation, and advising on tax settlement allocations

Manage the tax provision process for assigned entities which include:

  • Managing assigned entities that are issuing separate financial statements under US GAAP and are therefore subject to a more stringent external audit scrutiny (particularly AHFC, which has SEC reporting obligations)
  • Primary coordinator with external auditors and the company in responding to their questions regarding the tax provision calculations
  • Manage and maintain internal controls and SOX documentation to ensure compliance with SOX 404. Participate in the SOX walk-through with external and internal auditors
  • Managing the tax compliance process for assigned entities which include reviewing, supervising, and training in tax technical areas involving the preparation of complete and accurate federal and state income tax returns / work papers by internal due dates.

Manage other assignments by deadlines established such as:

  • Federal and state audits by providing the appropriate responses to IRS and states audit information/document requests
  • Tax Department strategy support
  • Tax planning support and advice
  • Process improvements and maintaining calendar to increase Tax Department efficiency

Manage associate development and education which includes:

  • Training and developing associates to complete all Business Objectives and Competencies according to established standards
  • Conducting performance evaluations
  • Developing greater unity and teamwork among associates
  • Mentoring staff
