Senior Tax Director
Responsabilities:
- Leading and directing the efforts of the tax team of professionals dedicated to providing services to individual tax clients with primary focus on the ultra-high net-worth and related accounts. Serve as subject matter expert and provide seamless service delivery for all tax services for high net worth clients and related accounts.
- Supervising, mentoring, and developing junior managers and tax staff in all matters including the day-to-day delivery of tax services to our clients.
- With a vision for growth, developing and executing strategy for achievement of practice expansion in the Ultra-High Net Worth (UHNW) space, and continued development of external relationships (professional groups, attorneys, investment advisors, insurance advisors, private bankers, etc.
- Establishing meaningful rapport with sophisticated clients to gain their confidence, gaining an intimate knowledge of their lives/objectives so as to be able to anticipate their needs and respond quickly to demanding clients’ various requests.
- Working with colleagues as well as outside tax advisors and counsel to deliver integrated advisory services.
- Staying current and ahead of cutting-edge tax-related developments, legislative and regulatory changes on the domestic front.
- Serving as advocate on behalf of the clients regarding federal, state and local tax issues.
- Representing clients before tax authorities.
- Overseeing the timely and accurate preparation and filing of individual, fiduciary and gift tax returns for high-net-worth individuals and their affiliated entities.
- Analyzing all significant transactions/acquisitions, JVs and alliances for the purpose of developing and recommending cost-effective individual tax structures (provide creative input regarding structure and assist in negotiations).
- Providing analyses of financial, gift, estate, and income tax issues of ultra-high net worth individuals and families.
- Overseeing the research and interpretation of the Internal Revenue Code and various State Tax Codes.
- Managing ad hoc projects with complex tax and cash flow related analysis.
Qualifications:
- CPA with M.S. in Tax preferred, or JD with LLM in Tax desirable.
- At least 20 years of extensive experience working with ultra-high net worth individuals in a tax and/or family office environment.
- Notable tax consulting and compliance experience; in-depth familiarity with tax research techniques and resources.
- Excellent client service approach, strong consultative skills and a service mind-set while delivering advice as more than a tax adviser.
- Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills, general/broad knowledge of economic business conditions and ability to work on multiple projects at once.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to prepare detailed planning memoranda as well as to provide simple explanations to clients (e.g., non-tax specialists).
- Self-starter with the ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-energy, high-touch environment.
- Strategic and tactical thinker with vision and foresight to conceptualize innovative approaches and technical prowess to execute same.
- Familiarity with partnerships and other flow-through entities.
- Ability to develop, mentor and grow professional staff.
