U.S. Transaction Tax

About the Role

A large multinational organization is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to oversee U.S. sales, use, and transaction tax compliance. This position manages indirect tax operations, supports audits, drives process improvements, and partners with cross‑functional teams on systems and automation initiatives. The role is hybrid and part of the corporate tax function.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department.
  • Strong ability to interpret state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience managing multi‑jurisdictional tax audits.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort with large data sets.
  • Experience with indirect tax technology solutions.
  • Background in process improvement or automation.
  • Strong prioritization, multitasking, and independent work capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with Sabrix or other sales tax/AP software is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Indirect Tax Compliance & Operations

  • Coordinate with external service providers on sales, use, and miscellaneous tax compliance.
  • Support system implementations, voluntary disclosures, and due diligence projects.
  • Oversee data gathering and data feeds for monthly tax compliance processes.
  • Manage a shared‑services team responsible for transaction tax workflows.
  • Calculate sales and use tax accruals and prepare account reconciliations.
  • Monitor nexus changes and assist with business registrations.

Tax Research, Policy & Legislative Monitoring

  • Perform research and analysis to determine proper tax treatment of transactions.
  • Monitor tax law changes and communicate implications to internal stakeholders.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Systems

  • Partner with tax, IT, finance, and accounting teams on automation and process improvements.
  • Participate in ERP integrations, rate updates, and tax requirements for system changes.
  • Train finance, operations, and other personnel on sales and use tax matters.

Governance, Controls & Audit Management

  • Maintain standardized processes and strong internal controls.
  • Develop and propose company policies focused on compliance and audit readiness.
  • Manage exemption certificate processes, including storage and lifecycle oversight.
  • Lead multi‑jurisdictional sales and use tax audits from start to finish.

M&A Support

  • Support merger and acquisition activity, including integrations and tax system implementations.
