Senior Indirect Tax Analyst

The Senior Indirect Tax Analyst is a key member of the Indirect Tax team, reporting directly to the Indirect Tax Manager. The Indirect Tax team is responsible for Sales & Use Tax, Business Licenses, Personal Property Tax, Gross Receipts Tax, and Federal Excise tax. This role carries primary responsibility for supporting indirect tax planning, research, and strategy across all US entities. The position offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented tax professional to make a significant impact on the organization’s tax efficiency and compliance.

This position will offer flexibility for hybrid work schedules to include both in-office presence and telecommute/virtual, to be based in Glen Allen, VA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct comprehensive research on tax rates, statutes, and regulations to ensure compliance and identify tax-saving opportunities
  • Assist and/or manage indirect tax audits from states and/or local jurisdictions
  • Monitor and evaluate indirect tax law changes, assessing their impact on business operations
  • Analyze returns and communicate trends of inconsistencies to tax leadership
  • Independently analyze contracts for indirect tax implications and provide strategic recommendations
  • Conduct regular reviews of indirect tax positions and processes to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Mentor and provide technical training to indirect tax analysts
  • Lead the preparation and/or review of various tax returns including sales and use tax, federal fuel excise tax, and occupancy tax across multiple jurisdictions
  • Review and resolve tax notices while maintaining detailed documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prevent and resolve tax issues
  • Provide expert tax guidance to internal stakeholders across the organization
  • Support automation efforts to enhance tax department efficiency
  • Complete other special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Tax, Finance and/or Accounting Information Systems or similar, plus at least 4 years of relevant tax experience including research and planning, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Demonstrated expertise in tax research methodology and interpretation of tax laws
  • Experience working with various Indirect Tax Research Tools (Avalara/TTR, RIA Checkpoint, Bloomberg)
  • Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple concurrent priorities
  • Ability to provide critical feedback and peer review of assigned work tasks
