Senior Accountant

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complete monthly financial close process for reciprocal insurers
• Prepare standard and complex monthly journal entries related to investment, reinsurance and loss journal entries
• Prepare and review intercompany and elimination entries
• Ensures assigned month-end close procedures are completed efficiently and timely (i.e., accruals, bank account and balance sheet reconciliations)
• Review financial statements for variances and provide explanations
• Ensure internal control compliance as mandated by Sarbanes-Oxley
• Prepare assigned audit work papers
• Assist with research and documentation of technical accounting matters
• Special projects and other ad hoc duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Detail and deadline oriented, committed to professionalism
• In-depth understanding of GAAP and STAT accounting
• Team oriented, proactive approach to all situations
• Proficient research and communication skills
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Commercial and reciprocal insurance accounting experience preferred
