Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage and review the preparation and filing of all sales and use tax returns in all applicable state and local jurisdictions and the related indirect taxes in the provinces of Canada.
  • Evaluates and designs sales and use tax processes and the related technology strategy, approaches this activity with a strong continuous improvement mindset. Responsible for implementing agreed processes.
  • Critically assesses the resource model for sales and use tax activities for internal and external decisions to effectively establish and maintain robust sales and use tax processes.
  • Research and advise on the sales and use tax treatment of sales and purchases related primarily to the construction, manufacturing, and industrial products industries.
  • Manage the maintenance of exemption certificate compliance for all customers and vendors.
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of IT systems involving sales and use tax implications to ensure we are compliant with the tax laws.
  • Coordinate and manage the defense of all sales and use tax audits, including the accumulation of audit data and the negotiation of audit settlements.
  • Partner with the internal sales staff and customers by assisting and providing guidance in determining the correct and most reasonable sales tax treatment and resolving discrepancies for quotes, orders, and invoices.
  • Review the reconciliation and analysis of sales tax balance sheet accounts.
  • Analyze issues to determine nature, scope, and direction of investigation and planning required.
  • Actively deploy and collaborate with external sales and use tax resources for various projects when necessary and news to stay current on legislative changes and ideas.
  • Manages the use of external service providers and sets requirements in Service Level Agreements with an outsourced activity.
  • Support tax and accounting departments with special projects that may be assigned including other areas of tax.
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
  • Assign and complete special projects as necessary and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job will be responsible for supervising and managing the Sales Tax Analyst.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior industrial manufacturing experience, including working in a high growth environment
  • Experience working with JD Edwards and Vertex
  • Previous systems implementation
