Sales Tax Analyst
Overview:
This role is responsible for managing day-to-day activities related to sales and use tax compliance and reporting across multiple jurisdictions. The position includes preparing tax filings, supporting audits, maintaining exemption documentation, and collaborating with external tax advisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns for various states and local jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to support corporate tax return preparation, ensuring timely and accurate responses to information requests.
- Manage all aspects of sales and use tax audits, including documentation gathering, responding to inquiries, and liaising with auditors.
- Maintain and configure tax software and ERP systems to ensure accurate tax calculations.
- Oversee the collection, validation, and organization of customer tax exemption certificates.
- Provide guidance and training to Accounts Receivable staff on sales tax procedures and compliance.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and automation in tax compliance workflows.
- Review and respond to tax notices from government agencies, ensuring timely resolution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA license and/or Master’s in Taxation (MST) preferred.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, including hands-on involvement in sales tax compliance.
- Proficiency with tax software (e.g., Avalara) and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) is highly desirable.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with internal teams and external agencies.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
