Private Client Tax Director

Our Client is an independent accounting, tax and business advisory firm based in the City of London. Their origins go back over 125 years and many of their client partnerships span decades. They are proud to be a people-led professional advisory firm, where heritage, trust and partnership are at the heart of what we believe in.

Over the last decade, the firm has undergone a transformation to become the dynamic and highly respected advisory firm it is today. They are now looking to add a private client to the tax team.

Day to Day Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Private Client Tax (PCT) Partner to oversee the whole of the department
  • Technical support for the team ranging from ad hoc day-to-day queries to support at Senior Management level. (PTP do formal quarterly training)
  • Shared Management of the structure of the department with PCT Partner, including client and team portfolios
  • Working with the senior managers to refine procedures to ensure quality of work across the department
  • Monitoring Tax Return progress, and working with the team to ensure that Tax Returns are done in a timely manner
  • Monitoring team financials, and working with the team to ensure that budgets are met
  • Reviewing Tax Returns to ensure quality control with a view to highlighting planning opportunities
  • Working with the Audit & Accounts department to provide a seamless approach to client service
  • Reviewing advisory pieces prepared by other team members
  • Dealing with ad hoc technical queries from the wider firm
  • Liaising with the marketing department and assisting on production of marketing material
  • Working with the senior managers and HR department on dealing with staffing issues, including recruitment, staff awards, appraisals, grievances and so on
  • Supporting Partner on preparing tenders/quotes for new clients and projects
  • Initial meetings with new clients to scope new work
  • Working with the IT department on procedural improvements to assist the firm’s investment in technological solutions
  • Oversight and technical support on employment related securities
  • Management of a portfolio of a limited number of clients
  • Ability to network at organised firm events, and on occasion present as required

Qualifications, Experience & Skills required

  • CTA, but QBE also considered; STEP would be desirable.
  • Strong background in residence and domicile issues, including pre-arrival planning and exit planning
  • Understanding of international tax issues, including double tax treaties (non-UK tax matters will be dealt with through our international network of advisers)
  • Understanding of offshore trusts
  • Awareness off international corporate structures, such as UK central management & control and branches
  • Strong background with OMBs, including ability to understand accounts and ability to advise on family remuneration planning
  • Awareness of planning structures such and Family Investment Companies, Family Finance Companies or property incorporations. Ability to identify where such structures may be appropriate for referral to the Transactions Team
  • Strong awareness of anti-avoidance legislation including Transfer of assets abroad, transactions in securities and phoenixing
  • Sound knowledge of inheritance tax planning, including the use of UK and offshore trusts
  • Ability to quickly research and provide answers to a wide range of technical queries
  • Experience managing and adding value to a portfolio of personal tax clients
  • Significant experience in Technical training and general management of people
  • Strong and broad tax technical knowledge, focussing on private client taxes but also including company and employment taxes
  • Excellent people skills to maintain client and staff relations
  • Attention to detail
  • Positive and pro-active approach with clients and colleagues
