Indirect Tax Specialist II
Responsibilities:
- Prepares basic to complex multi-state sales and use tax returns, environmental tire fee returns and other miscellaneous taxes using tax software systems; reconciles general ledger accounts; troubleshoots escalated issues.
- Analyze and evaluate transactional tax data to prepare reporting for various tax filings.
- Validates tax exempt certificates using tax software system; works with both employees and retail customers; develops and implements procedures; troubleshoots escalated issues.
- Develops, maintains and communicates tax exempt guidelines; confirming accuracy and understanding.
- Prepare, file and pay business personal property tax returns; administer monthly accruals; reconcile internal systems; troubleshoots escalated issues.
- Maintains, prepares and files unclaimed property returns; reconciles general ledger accounts; develops and improves current procedures.
- Administers the configuration, testing, implementation, and evaluation of automated and manual tax systems; ensures internal configuration on integrated systems are accurate.
- Investigate and register for all workers compensation, withholding, unemployment, state, county and city licenses required for locations in new states, in a timely manner.
- Identifies and obtains state, county and city licenses required for new locations, including business licenses, alarm permits and miscellaneous operational licenses; troubleshoots escalated issues
- Troubleshoots and resolves escalated business license, permit and miscellaneous operation license issues.
- Research and ensure compliance with IRS reporting and completes 1099 processing.
- Assist with various state, county and city audits.
- Calculate and analyze various fringe benefits including relocation expenses, education assistance and vehicle use; evaluate law changes to ensure compliance; streamline processes.
- Identify efficiencies to streamline current processes and procedures, recommends solutions and implements new procedures.
- Trains and provides guidance to Tax Specialist I.
- Stay current on the latest industry technologies, trends and strategies.
- Assists employees, vendors or other customers by answering escalated questions related to tax procedures and services.
- Completes work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- This position requires a minimum of three years corporate tax experience; knowledge of state tax law is required.
- Intermediate understanding of multi-state indirect tax as it pertains to retail.
- Experience researching, compiling, analyzing and interpreting tax data required.
- Ability to read and interpret tax laws with the ability to advise and make determination is necessary.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including skills with Word and Excel is required.
- Ability to design and create advanced spreadsheets is required.
- SAP experience preferred. Ability to work efficiently under pressure, accurately meet deadlines and present a professional demeanor is essential.
- Proven ability to work independently and in a team, multi-task, and manage multiple projects to meet various deadlines simultaneously is required.
- Customer service skills, including the ability to manage and respond to different customer situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude are essential.
