Reporting to the Head of Indirect Tax, this varied and challenging role includes implementation of tax planning opportunities thereby adding value to the P&L. This role will have a degree of accountability for Indirect Tax/VAT compliance across EMEA. Job description:

  • Support the Head of Indirect Tax on the accountability for Indirect Tax/VAT and assist with customs compliance where required across EMEA
  • The role also requires working on indirect tax issues across EMEA for the Group such as liaising with the two indirect tax specialists in the UK SSC
  • International VAT planning - assist with advising on all indirect tax aspects of the group's activities identifying areas where improvements can be made
  • Support the Data Governance Team to ensure indirect tax master data is captured within the financial systems appropriately so that tax codes are correctly applied on all transactions
  • Monitor and map cross border trading activity within the Group and carry out regular indirect tax risk analysis in order to keep this under control
  • Review SAF-T requirements in all countries within the Group and work closely with the appropriate Opcos and IT teams to ensure the requirements are met on time without exposing the Group to fines and penalties
  • Assist with advising on the indirect tax aspects of any projects being undertaken by the group such as restructuring, implementation of group wide systems, shared service centres etc to ensure indirect tax compliance, identify and implement any planning possible
  • Help to add value and enabling P&L benefits by eliminating 'sticking' tax. Review processes and ensure that the appropriate amount of VAT is payable
  • Assist the Head of Indirect Tax on the indirect tax aspect of internal and external tax audits across Europe with appropriate assistance from local finance teams and local tax advisers. This includes working with our external providers that claim back overseas VAT refunds
  • VAT Returns - Provide technical expertise and guidance to the teams that prepare and submit VAT returns for various operating companies for the Group. Review UK VAT return for the UK group companies
  • Assist with managing the group relationships with external tax bodies, in particular in the Netherlands and UK, and with tax advisers

You will ideally have

  • Indirect tax advisory and compliance experience in practice and/or Industry
  • Extensive specialist European proven VAT experience
  • Track record of delivering tangible P&L value to the organization
  • Track record of delivering major VAT projects (preferably on a pan-European basis)
  • Experience of working on restructuring, business development and planning projects
  • Customs duty experience is preferable but not essential
  • Professional accountancy/tax qualification desirable
  • Thorough understanding of how indirect taxes apply on transactions domestically in countries across EMEA and impact of cross border transactions for a company such as Ricoh
  • Excellent understanding of EU VAT legislation and a suitable understanding of local VAT legislation in order to identify risk and exposure
  • Clear evidence of extensive experience working with indirect taxes in industry in an international setting. This could include working with a variety of clients on indirect taxes in a big 4 or large tier firm
