Indirect Tax Director
Overview:
This strategic leadership role oversees the development and execution of indirect tax policies and strategies across the organization. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance, driving innovation, and enhancing operational efficiency in indirect tax processes and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with senior leadership, finance, legal, audit, and external advisors to provide strategic direction on complex indirect tax issues, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and global regulations.
- Design and implement governance frameworks and tax policies that span multiple business units and regions, reducing risk and promoting consistency.
- Manage relationships with external providers handling sales tax filings, focusing on continuous improvement through automation, performance tracking, and best practices.
- Lead multi-state and multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax audits, including issue resolution, negotiations with tax authorities, and coordination with external consultants. Provide executive-level updates and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with internal control requirements (e.g., SOX), including documentation, testing, and control enhancements.
- Support tax due diligence and integration efforts for mergers and acquisitions, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance for acquired entities.
- Co-manage indirect tax reserves, ensuring proper documentation and alignment with corporate accounting standards.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of tax professionals, fostering collaboration, excellence, and continuous learning.
- Partner with operations, IT, and business units to drive innovation in tax technology, data analytics, and process improvements.
- Provide expert support to field teams on client and government-related sales tax matters, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication.
- Champion enterprise-wide strategies and policies that proactively address regulatory changes, emerging risks, and evolving business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience in indirect tax, specifically sales and use tax.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation and audit resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to support cross-departmental initiatives.
- High integrity and sound judgment in decision-making.
- Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
