About Us:

We are a rapidly growing company in the renewable energy sector, focused on delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions. As we scale, we are seeking a skilled and dynamic Financial Controller to support our financial operations, manage accounting functions, and drive strategic financial growth. This role presents the unique opportunity to grow into the CFO position for the right candidate, particularly if they bring prior experience in CFO-adjacent roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    • Oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements in accordance with IFRS or US GAAP, ensuring compliance with tax, audit, and financial reporting standards.
    • Provide regular financial reports, budget vs. actual analyses, and performance insights to the CEO and leadership team.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Lead the budgeting process, with an annual budget scope of approximately $10M, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company goals and priorities.
    • Manage financial forecasting and cash flow management to support the growth of renewable energy projects.
  • Audit & Compliance:
    • Oversee the audit process, collaborating with external auditors to ensure timely and efficient audits.
    • Ensure compliance with tax equity structures and renewables-specific tax incentives, including managing state-specific taxes for employees in various states across the US and internationally.
  • Tax Equity & JV Entity Management:
    • Handle tax equity investments and manage joint venture (JV) entities, ensuring the accuracy of accounting for tax credits and other renewable energy-specific incentives.
    • Stay updated on the latest developments in the tax equity market, ensuring that the company is positioned to capitalize on available incentives.
  • Payroll & Accounting:
    • Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with applicable payroll regulations.
    • Manage accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy of the company’s financial records, month-end close processes, and reconciliation.
  • System Implementation & Growth:
    • Continue building out the recently implemented NetSuite ERP system to ensure optimal functionality for financial operations and reporting.
    • Collaborate with the finance team to build stronger financial structures, reporting processes, and internal controls.
  • Leadership & Organizational Development:
    • Drive change and influence key stakeholders, building a more structured financial organization that aligns with the company’s long-term vision.
    • Mentor and develop the finance team to ensure strong financial operations and compliance.

Qualifications & Work Experience:

  • Experience:
    • Strong preference for candidates with experience in the Renewables sector, particularly those with a deep understanding of tax equity and C&I solar projects. Open to candidates with experience in utility-scale or adjacent renewable energy sectors.
    • Proven track record in controller and audit-heavy roles with exposure to complex accounting functions, including budgeting, payroll, JV entity management, and compliance.
    • Familiarity with international tax and the ability to manage state-by-state taxes in the US and internationally (e.g., Canada) is highly desirable.
    • Experience with NetSuite is required, especially in building out and optimizing ERP systems.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Ability to work autonomously and influence without authority to drive compliance, structure, and financial success in a small, geographically dispersed organization (approximately 30 employees across multiple states).
    • Strategic thinking with the capacity to transition into a CFO role, taking on leadership responsibilities for scaling financial operations as the company grows.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills to engage with key stakeholders across various levels of the organization.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s or CPA preferred).

Compensation Package:

  • Base Salary: $180,000 per year
  • Bonus: 15-20% annual bonus based on performance
  • Equity: Stock options or equity in the company
