Manages corporate tax reporting, planning, compliance, and payment functions, including corporate income/franchise, sales, property, and various excise taxes. Optimizes corporate structures, methods, and processes to lawfully minimize corporate tax burden.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, and developing partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining partners; scheduling; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
  • Advises upper management regarding effects of business activities on taxes, identifying opportunities to minimize taxes where possible.
  • Ensures timely and accurate filing of all federal, local, and state tax returns.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of tax laws and regulations, ensuring the organization remains compliant.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable tax payments and informational reporting to government agencies.
  • Represents the company before various taxing bodies on issues such as audits, inquiries, and disputes.
  • Examines books, records, and applicable laws to compute taxes owed to government agencies.
  • Collaborates with the Real Estate team to minimize property taxes through informal discussions, formal challenges, and/or arranging outside appraisals.
  • Collaborates with Pricing and Information Technology departments to ensure proper sales tax collection on retail store products.
  • Devises, installs, and/or supervises acquisition of software, programs, worksheets necessary to compute accurate and appropriate tax liabilities.
  • Studies business and professional journals and attends seminars to stay current on developing trends in corporate tax methods.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and IRC tax accounting principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of project, fixed asset, and tax accounting computer systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP reporting and transactional applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced mathematical skills for calculating discounts, interest, and percentages.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods, and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a four-year college or university and five to ten years related experience and/or training in the tax accounting field, with CPA credentials; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
