Responsabilities:

  • Assists the CFO in managing the overall financial and accounting functions of the Finance department.
  • Supervises the Assistant Controller and the Accounting staff in the day-to-day operations of the Finance department.
  • Establishes organizational-wide financial safeguards, implements standards, identifies emerging issues, and makes improvements to processes and systems where applicable.
  • Oversee the timely month-end closing and reporting process.
  • Reviews bank reconciliations, accruals, and confirms proper timing and recognition of revenue and expenses.
  • Monitors the collection of all revenue and payment of all expenditures and related recording of all transactions.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports.
  • Participate in periodic operational meetings with upper management to review current fiscal year-to-date data versus the budget and prior year actual data. Actively understand each area of the business; explain significant variances and highlight opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Manage and coordinate the annual audit process conducted by external auditors. Ensure all supporting schedules are prepared and provided to the audit team in advance of field work and are in an auditable format to allow for a thorough and efficient process.
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Participate in the annual budget process.
  • Meet regularly with the Development team to confirm all outstanding gifts and pledges, reconcile contributions raised and reported in the P/L versus contributions reported as GAAP revenue in the general ledger.
  • In coordination with the CFO develops and maintains key banking relationships.
  • Ensures proper hiring and training of Finance department staff. Conducts performance evaluations. Makes termination and disciplinary recommendations, where necessary.
  • Manage transmission of forms 1096 and 1099 at each calendar year-end
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • CPA strongly recommended.
  • Experience as a Controller or Director of Finance in a not-for-profit organization preferred.
  • Experience with audits and GAAP required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience with Salesforce, Concur and Great Plains accounting software helpful.
