Regional Law Firms
As the regional firms continue their competitive assault on the City firms, they are increasingly hiring high-calibre partner designates to bolster existing practice groups with lawyers who have 'large firm' experience. Many of the medium-sized regional firms also recruit at this level to deal with succession issues within the partnership.Since the downturn, we have seen increasing numbers of senior lawyers moving both into and within the regions in order to improve their partnership prospects, especially in practice areas such as corporate and tax.
Whilst it is possible that senior assistants moving from either a City or a large regional firm to another regional player might be offered an immediate partnership, it is more usual that lawyers would be hired with a very clear understanding as to when they might be appointed to the partnership.
