Overview
The role of the partner designate is less common now than, say, ten years ago. There has been a move towards roles such as director, salaried and fixed share partner. Historically, one of the negative aspects of the partner designate position was that there was often no timeframe or objectives agreed for moving through to full partnership status.
You are most likely to see the role of partner designate in independent firms, often as an internal promotion en-route to partnership.
Remuneration
Due to the vast range of independent firms across the UK, it is impossible to give any accurate guidance of remuneration. For specific advice about your circumstances it is important to talk to a third party, such as a respected recruitment company, to offer some benchmarks.
Notice period
As partner designate positions are often created on a case-by-case basis, notice periods will vary from one to six months.
