5-a-side Football Tournament

Brewer Morris 5-a-side 2009
When: Friday 14th August 2009
This year, our annual charity football tournament attracted 15 teams from practice and commerce, making for a hotly-contested competition. A rare, sunny afternoon in August saw the contestants slugging it out in four separate pools, with knockout rounds in both the cup and the plate competitions to follow. There was a wide range of talent on display, from the clinically efficient professionalism of the accounting firms to the ragbag bunch of thirty-somethings who turned up to represent Brewer Morris. The games though were played in a universally good spirit and, most importantly, everyone enjoyed a great afternoon out of the office.
It quickly became apparent that defending champions, HW Fisher, were going to be the firm to beat, and so it turned out, with the team being marshalled by Martin “The Gaffer” Taylor, going on to win for the second successive year. BDO, one of the few firms to enter a mixed sex team, also performed admirably to win the plate competition.
Taxation Magazine again kindly supported us in hosting the tournament, which raised £2,000 for CLIC Sargent, a charity that works to help children suffering from cancer.
It was great to see so many people from the tax world turning up to help us support such a great cause (and later to support the bar at a local pub). Following the football, the post-match analysis continued long into the night in the beer garden of The Water Poet, where HW Fisher basked in their glory while the also-rans vowed to come back next year to topple the reigning champions.
Thanks to all of you who participated and helped to make it such an enjoyable event. We very much look forward to seeing you again next year.
